Printing 75 Years of Oxford-Bonn Twinning

CELEBRATION WEEKEND for the 75th ANNIVERSARY OF SIGNING OF the LINK AGREEMENT on 9 OCTOBER 1947

FRIDAY 7 October 7.15 p.m. German Lutheran Congregation House, 15a Lathbury Road, Oxford.  Left-hand door! Talk by the Revd Donald Norwood:

A pre-war contribution towards twinning.  German Refugees in 1938/1939 Oxford and the work of the Revd Nathaniel Micklem of Mansfield College in helping them; (leading to the first services for the German Lutheran congregation at St Mary’s church, the University church).

SATURDAY 8 October

Your chance to print a keepsake of the Oxford Bonn Link 75th anniversary.

11.00 am. – 12.00 noon.  Bodleian Library, Old Schools Quad, Schola Musica – Print Workshop.  Typesetting text and linocutting the 75th anniversary logo.

12.00 noon – 1.00 pm. Bodleian Library, Blackwell Hall, Weston Library. Printing your keepsake.

1.15 – 2.30 pm.    Bring-and-share picnic lunch.  Wellington Square. (Fallback in case of inclement weather: Faculty of Medieval & Modern Languages, 41 Wellington Square)

2.45 for 3.00 pm. Taylorian Institute, St Giles, Voltaire Room. Guided tour of current exhibition: Amazing Inventions: Printing from the 15th – 21st Century, featuring German material from incunabula via Reformation pamphlets to underground publications from the German Democratic Republic. (limited numbers – please let Henrike Lähnemann know in advance if you want to participate)

4.00 pm.  St Mary Magdalen Church Tower. Professor Henrike Lähnemann will abseil from the church tower together with her trumpet sporting a large banner displaying our 75th anniversary logo and fundraising for the Oxford Winter Night Shelter!

SUNDAY 9 October 4.00 p.m.  Bonn Square (forecourt of Baptist church). 

Short public ceremony celebrating our actual anniversary, led by the Lord Mayor. 
This will include the singing of the British and German National Anthems.
